Feldenkrais

A gentle way of teaching yourself new, more efficient ways to move.
When we were younger we could get away with powering or muscling our way through tasks.
As we age it's important to learn to become more efficient in our movements, this is mostly for survival reasons.

"Movement is life, without movement there is no life"
Moshé Feldenkrais

Many people come to the Method because of chronic pains and somewhere later on realize that not only does their back, etc. feel better but they also move easier, are doing new things, and might even have better sleep.

Feldenkrais is experienced in two ways:

1. Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes:
These are group classes open to the general public.
Each class is 45 - 60 minutes.

You are verbally guided through gentle movement sequences
called Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons.
In these group classes, gentle exploratory movement sequences are designed to
give you more understanding of yourself.
You learn to move with less pain and effort, and in such a way that changes
occur in the brain patterns which organize control of your body.
You will learn how to translate intention into action with ease,
while getting rid of unnecessary interfering habits.

There are hundreds of ATMs to choose from in the Feldenkrais Method. The aim of these lessons is not necessarily relaxation nor movement, but rather healthy, powerful, easy, and pleasurable action.

Current group (ATM) classes:

Monday 6:15 - 7:15pm
- @ AlkiMoves
Wednesday 12:00 - 1:00pm - @ AlkiMoves

2. Individual Sessions with Erik LaSeur (Functional Integration®):

This is "hands-on" Feldenkrais to meet your specific needs.  Erik communicates, through gentle and non-invasive touch, the experience of comfort, pleasure and ease of movement, while you learn how to reorganize your body and behavior in new and more effective ways. The intention of my touch is instructive and informative, never corrective.

Feldenkrais practitioners are trained to detect minute resistances in your movement patterns which often represent emotional, psychological as well as physical limitations.
Using highly sensitive touch and gentle, exploratory movements, you will find freedom from compulsive, imprisoning patterns.

Functional Integration (FI) lessons are particularly suitable for people with specific problems such as back, neck, shoulder or other chronic pain, movement limitations or a need to improve any type of function.  These lessons are also indicated for neurologic disorders.

Functional Integration® Sessions are held at Alki Moves by appointment.
